Babyshambles - Fuck Forever

Andrew Goodwin’s theory that the lyrics should be closely linked with the video is used. In this video this theory can be used to a degree depending on how one would understand the word "fuck" in a sexual sense or a flippant saying to show how one is not interested in anything forever. The narrative story shows that the viewers can take the word "fuck"in a sexual context as the story shows us of two people getting together. But the Goodwin theory cannot be adopted for the performance as the performance has nothing to do with the lyrics.
A video like this will represent the people in the video, the band and the target audience as a non mainstream audience who are socially different then the mainstream culture of Britain today. The Video shows how the men dress and act as different to everyday people. The lyrics also shows how different this song is from that of a mainstream pop act or even a different indie band due to the constant swearing. This video has entropic details in it but it also is highly redundant. The entropy in the video is that of the farm yard animals wearing pork pie hats and the location, bull fighting but with other band members instead of bulls. But the high level of redundancy is apparent as everyone can recognise it is a band playing instruments and what type of music it is.
The way this video is filmed helps to create an indie scene making this a typical video for its genre. There is establishing shots of the band performing helping the audience understand where the video is taking place and to grasp the industrial area. The rawness of the area links in with the genre as the genre of indie is a non mainstream genre supposing to be different than other large mainstream acts which have everything tweaked to perfection where as an independent band has a rough element making them successful. The audience are able to see a number of close up shots in the narrative part of the video where then male and female are talking to each other and the shots are accompanied with over the shoulder shots making the audience feel like they are there, more realistic and a chance to relate to the characters. In the performance part of the video there is again i number of close and mid close up shots of the band performing this can show the band lip syncing but also facial expressions which can help the audience feel closer to the band. There isn't just close ups of the band but there is close ups of instruments, farm yard animals and signs these unusual and quirky sights make this video have a higher sense of entropy then a normal indie video as not every video one would see fighting with farm yard animals. Zoom and Reverse Zoom is used to show close up shots and establishing shots of the band. This is common in a music video and especially accompanied with high pace editing keeping the audience on their toes and eager to watch. The band are jumping around a lot meaning the camera does not need to use a pan or dolly shot to create movement as most of the video the camera seems to be on a tripod or hand held. The way the video is edited is by using a montage editing effect making the video high paced to match the music of the bands jumping around from one shot on this industrial farm to another this can be linked with the genre as the indie genre is suppose to be simple but energetic with things that are not normal to a mainstream band.
The Fuck Forever video contains both a Narrative story line and a live performance. The narrative story line played by characters not in the band is about a scruffy looking man (perfectly fitting into the genre stereotype due to appearance of long unwashed hair, thin long white body draped with an old un buttoned shirt and a beaten up old leather jacket) at a cinema trying to sweet talk a young woman into meeting him. Using subtitles does all this and one may of thought it was in a different language until the male mentions a famous landmark in London, England. The narrative storyline works well as it is closely linked with the genre but it also attracts the audience and can make the audience relate and understand more of the video. The performance part of the video is that of the band performing in an urban-based setting with a fenced off perimeter keeping the band in this old dirty looking area where a factory may of once stood. The performance part of the video shows the energy of the band linking in with the genre theme of a band jumping around in skinny black and white suits with pointy shoes, hats with long hair. There is nothing entropic about the way the band look. There I a sense of rawness with the band as the colours used is that of low colour, very little colour is used but the union jack flag is something which is in contrast with the rest of the video being very bright and noticeable fitting in with the typical indie british scene. Michael Shore’s theory can be used with this video as Shore believes in a video full of male fantasies and this video has the female male love fantasy as there is an attractive women falling perfectly into the genre of the music by how she looks. And the kissing scene at the end of the video again backs up the theory that all music videos express fantasies of males.
